Overview
Your Qilak VPS is managed through our Tenantos control panel, which lets you reinstall your operating system at any time using a PXE (network) boot. This process wipes the virtual disk and installs a fresh OS from our template library — typically completing in 5–15 minutes.
Warning: A reinstall will erase all data on your VPS. Back up anything important before proceeding.
Before You Begin
- Active Qilak client area login (qilak.ca)
- Your VPS service must be active (not suspended)
- A new root/administrator password ready, or let the panel generate one
Step-by-Step: Reinstalling Your VPS
- Log in to the Qilak client area and open Services → My Services.
- Click on your VPS service to open its management page.
- In the service sidebar, click Reinstall.
- Choose your operating system from the template list (Debian, Ubuntu, AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, Windows Server, etc.).
- Set a new root or Administrator password. Use at least 12 characters with mixed case, numbers, and symbols.
- Review your selection and click Confirm Reinstall.
- The VPS will power off, PXE boot into the installer, and complete unattended installation. Progress is shown on the same page.
Once the status shows Active, your VPS is ready. Connect via SSH (Linux) or RDP (Windows) using the primary IP shown on the service page.
Watching the Installation (Optional)
If you want to watch the installer run, click Console (noVNC) on your service page. This opens a browser-based KVM view of the VPS during and after installation — useful if the OS drops to a login prompt and you need to verify it booted correctly.
Troubleshooting
The installation is stuck or timed out
VPS reinstalls normally finish in under 15 minutes. If yours has been running longer:
- Open the noVNC console to see where the installer is currently sitting.
- If the console shows an error or is stuck at the boot menu, try the reinstall again from the client area.
- If it fails a second time, open a support ticket at qilak.ca with the OS template you selected and any error messages shown on the console.
I cannot log in after reinstall
- Confirm you are using the password you set during the reinstall, not the one from your original welcome email.
- For Linux, the default user is
root. For Windows, it isAdministrator. - Give the VPS 2–3 minutes after the panel reports "Active" — SSH and RDP services need a moment to start on first boot.
The OS I want is not in the list
We add new templates periodically. If you need a specific distribution or version not listed, open a ticket and we can usually make it available within 1–2 business days.
